Let's look FORWARD not BACKWARD

Most people care about our environment and cleaner air. However there seem to be two schools of thought. One is a passionate belief that we should un-invent cars and go back to carrying everything on bicycles, or in some cases on foot. These ideologues will not hear a word of criticism against their belief that the bicycle is going to save the planet. They seem unconcerned about other issues that impact on the planet; having more than two children, living in centrally heated houses, taking long-haul flights, demanding ethical products that turn out to have very perverse consequences for people and wildlife in other countries. (almond milk for example )

Here the Council continues to close roads, despite mounting evidence that doing so INCREASES congestion and pollution.

There are all kinds of technological innovations that COULD be being supported instead of this retrograde idea of going back to some mythical time when there was no motorised traffic and children played in the street. Factually it was only poor children who were forced to play in the street because they had no gardens and no parks nearby. Why do we want to return to some Victorian type of living when we should be moving forward to a 21st century type of living?

Waltham Forest Streets for All has always been pushing for more electric cars, and eventually for the probably much more sustainable hydrogen cell cars. The anti-car brigade retaliate by saying that even those cars cause pollutants because of particles from tyres and brake linings. Well it is wonderful to learn that scientists are solving this problem.
