Barricades cause dangerous reversing

Despite years of opposition the Council keeps going until they get the results they want by lots of lobbying and use of weasel words like "modal filters" rather than the more honest "road closures"

The most recent example is the so-called "Hilltop area"

The barricades have gone in at the junction of Howard Road and Church Hill. This means that large vehicles such as the bin lorries have to reverse over 200 metres. Many Councils, eg Dacorum Borough Council, advocate that such vehicles should not reverse more than 12 metres.

Here is a VIDEO showing what the road closures mean for refuse collectors

This is what the Government's Health and Safety Executive advises:-

Reversing What's the problem?

Nearly a quarter of all deaths involving vehicles at work occur during reversing. Many other reversing accidents do not result in injury but cause costly damage to vehicles, equipment and premises.

Most of these accidents can be avoided by taking simple precautions.

Remove the need for reversing altogether, by setting up one-way systems, for example drive-through loading and unloading positions. Where reversing is unavoidable, routes should be organised to minimise the need for reversing.
