Stopping more people ENJOYING walking

People might remember that we took the Council to a public enquiry the last time they tried to turn a pedestrian route into a combined cycle track and footpath. You can see all the documents here The Inspector was very supportive of our case and expressed his concerns about the reduced safety, but because the Council had removed the safety barriers at one end a while back he rather reluctantly allowed the alley between Howard Road and Aubrey Road to be used by bikes.

Anyone who lives in that area will know that this is quite a dangerous route now. Whilst in the past cyclists were quite happy to dismount and walk their bikes through the alley, now there are bikes and even motorbikes whizzing across the pavement on their way to and from Seaford Road. It is very alarming. One little girl was actually hit by a motorbike.

But Clyde Loakes is only interested in his own beliefs not the evidence from the majority of residents. He is for the few not the many.

He is now trying to introduce something similar in an even more unsuitable location.

SO please get your pens out and send your objections NOT LATER THAN 5th SEPTEMBER as per the above notice.

The main point to make is that the proposed shared route narrows to 1.6 metres, and much of its length is less than 2 metres wide. This is much less than the Government’s official advice for the minimum width of a shared cycle and pedestrian facility. The Council's own Access Guidelines require clear routes for pedestrians of minimum 1.5m. Of course the Council doesnt really mean the ENJOY WALKING strapline !

Please copy your objections to infowfstreets4all@gmail.com THANKS!
