CPZs
Waltham Forest Streets for All acknowledges that CPZ restrictions may be necessary in some areas. However the policies in LBWF are aimed at 1) gaining revenue given that central government has cut so much local authority funding 2) continuing their war against the car.
We acknowledge that there are serious issues with air pollution, but as you will know from previous WFS4A research we contend that closing roads and restricting parking actually increases congestion and pollution. We would also like to see the amount of energy, time and money that has gone into Mini Holland counter-productive infrastructure put towards developing non-polluting vehicles instead. Cars have masses of benefits for so many of our residents; benefits that are ignored by the young fit white men who form the bulk of the Mini Holland champions and are in love with their bikes. Yes we know lots of ordinary people cycle too!
Residents parking permits might be valuable in some areas at some times, but LBWF has created a domino effect by introducing unnecessarily restrictive regulations in one area, thus causing people to park in the adjoining area (even when there are plenty of spaces in the first area) thus aggravating residents in the adjoining area and causing them to demand CPZs!
Currently LBWF has one of its "consultations" going on CPZs. Of course you cannot say what you really want. You can only answer their pre-determined questions. For example you cannot say whether you want the ME zone divided up; they have already decided that. We know most of our members disagree but you can only "have your say" in the way LBWF want. You also cannot say that you want shorter hours than they are putting forward; the drop-down menu only allows you to pick a very long time or a not quite such a long time.
Although it takes a lot of time to fill in the consultation because you have to do it several times to cover all the areas you use, we would urge you to do so and to put in the comments that you do not want to see zones divided up and that you think a couple of hours in the middle of the day is sufficient restriction everywhere; that's if you agree of course!
You can also go through all the comments and tick those you agree with.
Please share! otherwise the social media activists will make hundreds of pro MH comments as usual. https://marketeastcpzreview.commonplace.is/overview HAVE YOUR SAY :-)
