Public Inquiry Result
The Inspector has now completed his report which lists all the dangers that many individuals and organisations had presented to the Inquiry. He also records the lack of consultation and all the other issues that were raised in our submission However he seems to think the 11 emails received within one hour of each other on the morning of the Inquiry are equally valid. We wonder who instigated those!
As you read you assume that of course he will be recommending that the safety barriers be put back. However strangely he does not! He claims the current situation is better for accessibility despite representations from disabled people saying it is unsafe for them and despite a one time access officer explaining a 1.2m width between offset barriers is perfectly accessible. He also says that the works have already been completed - which is of course one of the reasons an Inquiry was ordered in the first place ie that the Council completed the work before the order was approved.
This is a very disappointing result. It is particularly problematic for the people who live adjacent to the alley who will have to continue dealing with the motorbikes in the middle of the night and other anti-social behaviour. It will also continue to be a danger for all pedestrians especially people with disabilities and children.
